Whether you are a long term fan of Peter Combe or new to his work there is much to celebrate in the launch of his latest album, ‘Live It Up’. Children, families, parents, grandparents and carers will be delighted with the range of songs and rhymes presented in this new collection. It is a pleasure to hear Peter’s warm and quirky voice as he shares his love of rhyme, nonsense and fun all over again.

The listener feels as if he or she has been invited into Peter’s special world for a time, where the wonder of such things as counting one’s toes, watching the sun rise and thinking about being a bee are captivating and take us to a simpler time in our lives. This simplicity of  discovery is vital for children and it takes a special talent and determination to hold onto this for us all in the midst of a barrage of commercialism in children’s music and entertainment.

Peter’s work always highlights the rhyme and rhythm of our language and the benefits of this for children in learning to discriminate sounds cannot be over emphasised. This awareness of oral language and taking pleasure in it are of enormous support to children as they learn to read and write. To have these benefits set in our own Australian context are simply wonderful for children.

The musical accompaniments on these tracks are interesting and of high quality. There are beautiful and lyrical songs such as ‘Magpie' alongside mad little ditties like “Ting Tang Teng Tong’ and warm and friendly songs such as ‘Talk About the Cat’.

You and the young people in your life will have a wonderful and enriching time ‘Living It Up’ with Peter Combe.
