Since teaming up some 5 years ago both on a musical and personal level, Queensland based artists Denise Brooks and Bob Magee have managed to bring to the stage a genuine and warm presence that leaves audiences feeling good long after the music has finished.
Denise (The Balladeer) has a passion for the Australian Bush Ballad and the story telling style of music. She has a clear and expressive vocal style that is easy to listen to which brings life to the story songs, she so loves. She has won numerous Female Vocal and Bush Ballad Awards on the Queensland Country Music Festival circuit including overalls.
She was a Grand Finalist in the Australian Bush Balladeers Starquest at Tamworth in 2004 & 2005. She made the final five in Female Vocal at the 2006 Gidgee Bush Ballad Awards and won the Encouragement Award at the Stan Coster Bush Ballad Awards at Bungendore in 2007. Tamworth 2007 saw Denise link up with Gary Cullen and the Bangtail Muster Poets performing at their Tamworth Shows followed by the Crookwell Show.
Bob (The Sailor) spent 22 years in the Royal Australian Navy which allowed him to combine his love for the sea and Country Music. He has played in Bands and performed solo throughout this time both in Australia and overseas. Leaving the Navy in 1995 has allowed Bob to concentrate fully on his music. He has a vocal sound that has been compared to Johnny Cash and combined with a unique style of rhythm guitar he covers all genres of Country Music.
He has performed his own shows in Tamworth since 2004 with Denise joining him this year with the Balladeer and The Sailor show which was well received. Like Denise, Bob has won many awards on the Queensland Country Music Festival Circuit. As Brooks & Magee they have recently released their first road album – The Balladeer and The Sailor and have toured extensively through Queensland as part of the 2006 Country Classics Tour, with Stan J. Hunt, playing in over 40 venues over 7 weeks.
A second CD – containing all Australian songs is in the planning phase and it is hoped to have it released mid to late this year.
A fantastic album, didn't know of Brooks & Magee until a recent trip to Longreach, Now I am a number one fan of their music.....
